Justin Verlander just finished his second complete game of 2009 and boy did he do it in style.
The Detroit right hander finished off the heart of the White Sox order in the 9th by getting Jermaine Dye to fly out to right, striking out Jim Thome and Josh Fields. His last pitch to Fields, his 122nd of the night, clocked 100 mph!!
With his lightening bolt of a fastball, Verlander finished off May with a 1.52 ERA and 56 k’s in 41 1/3 innings. In his 2 June starts so far, he’s put up an 8 inning, 7 strikeout, shutout performance, and this 9 inning, 9 k, 1 run thrashing.
He’s now 7-2 on the year and on pace for close to 20 wins and nearly 300 k’s. Motown’s Tigers are in first place and their ace is undoubtedly back.
